ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
CrowPlay is a blood rite gone wrong, a pleasant nightmare at the intersection of theatre and poetry created collectively by the company. This orignal devised work collides the Morrigna in Irish folklore, 2013 intelligence studies around corvidae neurobiology from University Tubingen, the marginalia of Edgar Allan Poe, and American Murder Ballads as a conspiracy of raven-women leads the audience—participatory witnesses— through an expanding series of rituals and tableaux. Their yearly ceremony is interrupted by the arrival of the mysterious Jane, everything but your your average unwitting sacrifice…
CrowPlay owes its shape to a generous research and development process over October/November 2017 at both Theatre Deli London and Centrespace Bristol. It received its world premier in October 2018 as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.

CrowPlay in its current form was created by performer-devisers Lauren Guglielmello, C.C. Kellogg, Sarah Quigley*, and Hannah Wolfe* as well as stage manager/ facilitator Allie Moratta (*appearing courtesy of AEA). The production also features reimagined murder ballads by Gates Torrey, original soundscapes by Joan Pope/ TempleOvSaturn, and the music of St. Vincent through the generous permission of Annie Clark. Featuring original garments by Beau Watson and an environmental set designed by the ensemble. With very special thanks to Laura Williams and the original U.K. lab participants.
